Brian Mcglade showed early in the weekend that he wanted to break the SV650 lap record set by Anthony Mazziotto III with a 1:29.317. The Irishman would get with in a few thousandths of the SV record and with in 2 tenths of the 1:29.128 lightweight class lap record held by Greg Melka on an air-cooled Ducati 1100. That is where McGlade’s run would stop and 15y/o Benjamin Smith would take over. After a small low side, Smith remained cool by putting in numerous laps in the 1:29 range but he would wait until the very last lap of the weekend to set the record. He set the track a-blaze with an insane 1:28.738. Not only smashing the SV lap record but also the lightweight lap record. To make this even more astonishing he was on a superstock bike. Who needs HP? Not Ben Smith. The kid would walk away with the track record and three victories over some very fast competition.
