Jackson Blackmon under Jennings Lap Record

MotoAmerica Twins Cup racer, Jackson Blackmon, was getting in some winter testing down at Jennings GP in Jennings, Florida. The previous week Blackmon spent some time with his 2021 Endurance Teammates (Blake Davis / Damian Jigalov) on their Suzuki SV650 preparing for the 2021 WERA/N2 endurance serious. Jackson was able to get damn close to the Jennings GP lap record that was set by Dane Westby on a Supersport Suzuki SV650 back in September of 2007. The young South Carolina native was lapping in the 1:20 range but was not able to drop below Westby’s 1:20.330.
This all changes as a week or so later, Blackmon was back at Jennings on a different brand machine. Robert Fisher of Roaring Toyz loaned out his Yamaha MT07 race bike to Jackson and Jackson made the most of it. His lap timer showed a best lap of 1:18.78 on Dunlop tires. I was able to talk to Jackson a bit about the bike as he had never spun laps on the Yamaha. He likes the bike, loves the punch out of the corner, and says Fisher has the geometry spot on. There has not been an official release from Jackson about his 2021 racing plans for the MotoAmerica series but I think this is a good sign we will see him on a Yamaha.
Sadly for Jackson, since this time was achieved at a trackday and not an official event with timing and scoring, the time does not count towards the official lap records but it shows that he is ready for those podium fights in 2021.
