6 years, 11months, and 7 days; that’s exactly how long it took for the Virginia International Raceway Lightweight Twins lap record to be broken. Back on June 15th, 2014, Brian Kcraget posted a 1:32.363 during an ASRA Thunderbike race aboard a 1st generation Suzuki SV650 on UK Dunlop Slicks.

Some how that record stood for nearly 7 years until Jody Barry from the mid-west showed up to the 2021 MotoAmerica Twins Cup event on his new Aprilia RS660. With very little seat time on the new APE 660, Jody has it nearly dialed and feels right at home.

Using US made Dunlop Slicks (spec tire for MotoAmerica), Barry was able to muster a 1:30.823 around VIR’s north circuit. Jody was not the only rider to circulate the track under Kcraget’s old lap record. Kaleb De Keyrel (Aprilia), Trevor Standish (Suzuki), Chris Parrish (Suzuki), Teagg Hobbs (Suzuki), Jackson Blackmon (Yamaha), Hayden Schultz (Aprilia), and Toby Khamsouk (Aprilia) were all under the 1:32.363 mark.

Jody’s lap record is the first for the new Aprilia RS660 and I’m sure it will not be the last. Congratulations to Jody, his team, and Aprilia.
