Tyler Humphreys in ASRA Pro Team Challenge action at Summit Point Raceway

20 year old Tyler Humphreys, from the Philadephia, PA suburbs, has been called into action for his MotoAmerica Twins Cup debut one round earlier than originally planned. This weekend, Humphreys will ride the Sam Wiest prepared #429 Suzuki SV650 in LWTRacer.com colors at the MotoAmerica Championship of Pittsburgh.

Long time Lwtracer.com sponsored racer Sean Dougherty was on the roster to ride the Twins Cup race this weekend at PIRC, along side his teammates Brian McGlade and Sam Wiest, but Dougherty suffered a high-side crash coming out of turn 5 at Summit Point Raceway while competing in last weekend’s CCS races. Dougherty suffered a broken wrist after being ejected from his Ducati 1000SS and will not be able to participate at PIRC, thus Tyler Humphreys will take Dougherty’s spot on the grid.

Only halfway through his first season as an expert-level CCS racer, Humphreys has quickly become a front runner in his CCS sprint races, challenging for wins already and setting some pretty impressive laptimes on his personal Suzuki SV650 sprint bike.

Like many familiar names currently racing in the MotoAmerica series (such as Anthony Mazziotto, Brandon Paasch, and Xavier Zayat), Tyler Humphreys honed his roadracing skills riding mini-bikes in the NJ MiniGP series. The young racer has not only crafted riding skills but has managed to land working gigs with Michael Faillace/MDM/Pirelli and helping out the legendary Eraldo Ferracci at the FBF base camp.

Humphreys was justifiably promoted to “A” rider status last Sunday as he teamed up with Sam Wiest to win the Lightweight class in the ASRA Pro Team Challenge race held at Summit Point Raceway. Tyler lead the lightweight field and the majority of the other teams in his hour plus stint doing consistent top tier sprint pace lap times putting the team 4th place overall before he would submit his riding duties over to Wiest. The duo would take victory by over three laps in front of the nearest class competitor.

Tyler Humphreys is in his Junior year at Millersville University in Lancaster, PA and is working on his undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a focus on accounting. Humphreys is evidently much smarter than he seems in person and is considered to be one of Sam Wiest’s star pupils in the CCS paddock.

Humphreys will be the second-youngest racer to grid up for a MotoAmerica Twins Cup race and does not intend to respect his elders when the 4:30pm starting lights go out this Saturday.

Further thoughts from Sean’s brother Paul Dougherty

“MotoAmerica racer Sean Dougherty was trying to beat his brother’s new found gift of speed at the final CCS round of the year at the much beloved Summit Point Raceway. He made a daring pass on the brakes into T1 and used the massive grunt of his Ducati Winchester built 2v Duc to maintain a two bike length lead over Paul heading to the technical back section of the course. Now knowing his brother finally had a well sorted bike beneath him, he gave every effort to maintain his lead. Consequently, he exerted a punch of force to his used but not spent Pirelli SC1 rear tire not felt since tectonic plates collided 100’s of millions of years ago creating the Appalachian mountains, of which Summit Point now lies in the former foot hills of the ancient and now decayed mountain range. Try as it could, the Pirelli could not hold back from his 2v Ducati powerplant from spooling up his rear tire and launching him into low earth orbit a mere 4 feet in front of this brother. Sadly, as Sir Issac Newton’s laws predicted, Sean began a quick decent back to Earth. Not too wisely, he subconsciously extended a hand in an attempt soften his arrival back to the planet and a simple break has thusly ended his 2018 campaign. A suitable replacement rider was needed in haste as MotoAmerica next round at Pitt was only days away. Team Principal Uel Wiest looked to recently added LAWT Racer Endurance team rider Tyler Humphreys. Taylor, as he’s known to many in the LAWT inner circle, is a fast young *explicit content* in the same vein as many SE PA and southern NJ kids that have come through the annals of NJ Mini racing. He single handled gave Uel his next consecutive endurance win and will now sub in for Kevin James stunt double Sean D. Sean was hypothesizing possible ways to get out of racing SV’s that left him with some but just measurable dignity. Step 1 was the injury. Now with Tyler (a well tested, fast, although known bird boned racer and warm up lap winner) signed up to ride his loaner bike, Sean expects a very good result in Pitt and has devised a plan he thinks should provide a more valuable option upon sale attempt at the end of the year or the beginning of next. Thus ending his torrid chapter of racing his own Suzuki so he can get back to using the friendly torque that a 2v provides to lug himself out of corners, shoot him down straights and launch himself to the moon. Taylor will also be present at NJMP is anyone is looking for a twink for hire.”
