MotoAmerica Twins : 2019 – The Wild Cards

Michael Barnes : It was a rumor, now it’s a little more than a rumor. Barney will race a Moto Corse Performance/Chrisboy built Ducati Monster 797 in select races in 2019. Which races? I don’t know. How many races? Yea, I still don’t know. What I do know is that he will be a force. We all know he’s got the speed. He won the Daytona 200…I’m sure he can win one of these races.

Jeffery Tigert : This dude can flat out race a motorcycle. He’s no stranger to the national scene as he romped around the country on a 600. He competed in AFM’s Formula Pacific. Jeff also raced lightweight twins for many years and went very fast. Let’s not forget the lone time we saw Tigert race MotoAmerica in 2018… 1 race, 1 win. He won very convincingly over Chris Parrish at Sonoma and holds the Lightweight Twins lap record at Sonoma. I know he will be back for more on a SV650.

Darren James : D200, Irish Road Racing, Buells; Darren races it. I don’t know if James is doing the entire season but if he is, he deserves to be on the favorites list. He stood on the podium at Sonoma in 2018 passing Madama to get there. He was in the lead group at Barber fighter for the podium right behind Curtis Murray before a transmission failure would force a DNF. Add him to list of the front runners. He will becompeting on a AP Yamaha MT07.

Xavier Zayat : Multiple track lap record holder on a SV. This stupid fast kid easily won the VIR MotoAmerica Twins round. While he will be a full time 600 Supersport racer in 2019, there are some rumors about some one off rides in the twins class.

Daniel Adams : He’s fast, he was fast at the finale. A mechanical kept him from fighting for the race win. I don’t know what rounds, if any, he plans on running but if he shows, keep an eye on him.

Tyler Humphreys : Riding a bike he had never ridden on tires he had never ridden at a track he had never ridden, Tyler nearly stood on the podium at his first MotoAmerica race. Young Humphreys would fall short by just .063 for the Pittsburgh podium behind Chris Bays. He backed up that strong performance by setting pole position at New Jersey. While the attendance will be limited, the performances will be strong for the college kid. Facebook Page

Robert Fisher: The Roaring Toyz owner jumped ship in the off season moving from the Suzuki SV650 that he’s known for 20 years to the new Yamaha FZ07. Fisher is suspiciously fast and says he feels at home on the Yamaha. If he doesn’t have repeats from Barber (crashing on first lap) I expect solid performances from the Floridian.

Brian McGlade : After suffering a broken hand early in the season, 2018 was not what the Irishmen wanted but he would put in strong performances at Pittsburgh and New Jersey later in the season. A 5th in Pittsburgh just a hair behind Humphreys and Bays followed up by a 2nd place at NJMP. That 2nd place was .003 at that line with race winner Kris Turner. McGlade will be back in 2019 for select rounds and I expect faster things from him as he gets more comfortable on his 3rd Generation SV650.

Justin Filice : Former MotoST racer, Justin had a strong showing at Utah (3rd place) and another good ride at Barber (4th). Will he be back for more? My inside source couldn’t say yes or no…

Jason Catching : Former AFM twins fast guy, lap record holder. He raced one MA race last year. This dude rips and I really hope the stars can align to have him on the grid a few more times. Catching Competition needs to be back at the races.

I have a few bears to poke… It’s gotta happen at some point.

Bradley Champion : I want to see him out there. Former Suzuki SV cup winner, endurance extraordinaire, and holds lightweight twins lap records on multiple circuits… This guy would be up front. Do it Bradley, do it. Unless… you know… you’re just scared… of Zoran beating you with a Mtn Dew can or forcing you to eat a cheeseburger when you didn’t win.

Brian Kcraget : Okay, one more poke. Lightweight VIR lap record holder. Overall stupid fast on a SV650 everywhere. We haven’t seen him race in a few years but i’d like to see if he’s still got it. Russell Masecar still loves you, just get the band back together already.

Kris Wall : I lied, one more poke. No one has ever been faster ever on any track on a lightweight twin. Kris Wall once looked at his SV650 and it won before the race even started. Kris Wall scored a perfect on his SAT because the scorer knew he was an SV racing god. This one time at band camp, Kris Wall played Beethoven’s 9th Symphony through the muffler of his SV650, he took 1st place. Chuck Norris was going to start racing until he heard about Kris Wall.

There will be one more article with “the other guys” or “the try hards” or “the wannabes” or “the hold my beers” or… i haven’t decided what to call it yet.
